Tattered Lace Gift box

Tattered Lace Gift Box
By Sue Smyth

Just recently I had to do an article on recycling in papercraft, along with some examples, which inspired me to do this pretty little gift box from the humble Toilet roll.
Cut the Couture Creations tattered lace doily from White cardstock. Spray with spray adhesive and cover with glitter.

Cover the toilet roll with pink cardstock, layer the glittered doily on top and attach with tape.
Create a rosette from ribbon. By cutting a small circle, from scrap cardstock and pleat ribbon around the edge holding in place with a hot glue gun.

Then make a sugared rose with Couture Creatiions Roses Die. As the per the tutorial in my last post, I use this technique many times so I have included again for you.

Step 1
Cut out the largest shape from the Roses die from white cardstock

Step 2
Trim off edge about 1 cm in width

Step 3
Roll up the spiral with a flower roller or bamboo skewer.

Step 4
Release and allow to unwind a little.

Step 5
Glue to the scrap white card with Hot glue.

Step 6
Trim off the excess white card.

Step 7
Use Couture Creations Tweezers to roll the petals.

Step 8
Spritz with your choice of spray inks. Allow to dry or heat gun

Step 9
Spray with spray adhesive.

Step 10
Dip into a pot of white Glitter.

Step 11
Voila! one sugared rose. This works best on pale colours rather than dark and looks just like sugared violets  do

Handy Hint when spraying with mist, cover all of the flower and then apply just a little of a darker colour to the centre only.
to add a kind of dimension. You can do this with a paint brush or pipette.

Thanks for joining me and I hope you are inspired.

Trinket box Template

Trinket box template

For those of you who wanted to give this project a try, here are my roughly made up templates. What I do to make a template is just work out my basic shape, ie the rectangle, then add two ruler widths to the sides.
Then work out a good place to position tabs and go from there. I like to have a folded side, so the edge of you box is not a raw cut edge, but a folded edge.
This stops tearing and sagging. Just copy templates and print out A4 size ( or increase in size until  shape fits comfortably on an A4 sheet)
It is also a good idea to do one in scrap paper first.

Just a Boy

Just a Boy layout
by Sue Smyth
Sharing a layout made with Kaszazz products today. I love using cogs and sprockets for boys, and one of my favourite ways is to adhere loads of them to cardstock and then paint with gesso. The gesso will absorb the Dylusions at a different rate than the cardstock and will give a wonderful variation in colours.
Use dylusions and sprays to colour the gesso, and finally swipe with ink or paint to highlight areas.
Simple spiky flowers, these are great for boy pages as they are not soft and feminine, they kind of look like a rosette. Because they are simple they fit on Mixed media boy style layouts.

Use brick template and swipe the page with gesso first, then adhere sprockets and cogs cut from lightweight chipboard. Old cereal boxes will do. The randomly paint with gesso and spray the colours you desire.

Step 1
Cut out 3 circles the same size

Step 2
Edge with gesso. Allow to dry

Step 3
Spray with Dylusions

Step 4
Snip edges of all three together.

Step 5
Pierce hole and insert brad.

Step 6
Ruffle edges to create a simple rosette style flower.

Just Us Layout

Just Us Layout
By Sue Smyth

Today I will share my latest layout for Couture Creations. To create the mixed media background, I have embossed 3 panels of white cardstock. Then trimmed them to fit my 12 x 12 panel. Adhere to the blue cardstock background and roughly brush over with gesso, and crackle medium. Once dry, spray with glimmermists randomly.

To cover the Tattered Lace panels, spray with spray adhesive, and then coat with brown glitter. Allow to dry and attach to layout, then place photos over the top.

I have cut out the Bird house in cardstock and embossed with Gold embossing powder for shine.

I have added lots of fibre and beaded trim, if your trim is not the right colour, spray with Glimmer mist to match the layout background.

Off the page and layout

Altered Love and Outdoor layout
by Sue Smyth

I found this letter stack at Kmart and decided it was just right for altering. To start with I have applied a layer of crackle medium, which I have then sprayed with Glimmer mists to colour up. The item was white to begin with so that was a bonus
For the Precious Moments, I have applied Dimensional Magic and glitter, as usual, but the brown colour of this is amazing. We dont use brown as a glitter enough I think!

I have sprayed the butterflies with spray Gesso and a little glitter for sparkle.

Natural Beauty Layout
One of my favourite photos of my daughter I took when she was 6 at my father's Farm. She is tucked down in the grass just like a little bird.
When I saw the new Barley chip, I just had to use them with this photo.

To alter the feather, I have inked it brown and overlayed brown Liquid pearls along the top. This gives it a really great dimension and sheen. So I tried liquid pearls on the thistle and Barley too. Liquid pearls come in so many colours you can usually find one to suit.

While the liquid pearls are wet you can sprinkle with micro beads and glitter for added dimension too. Then I have swiped gesso over the Micro beads to add more texture
